In that case, we get an instant preview of the questionable / given indicator, and last but not least, we make our everyday life more straightforward. Suppose we are using data visualization we can quickly recognize the trends. We have talked about this many times, but maybe not enough. The tree branches are represented by rectangles, wherein each rectangle’s size would denote how big the value (in this case, Sales ) would be. They are very visual as it can easily show you patterns, like based on your summary of sales grouped by month. Treemap Charts are one of the many new Charts available only in Excel 2016. On the picture, dark blue represents higher values, white’s the average, and the different shades of yellow represent the countries having smaller values.Īmong other things, the Treemap chart is capable of using risk management. Tree maps are available in most dedicated data visualization. ![]() We created this little program to freely choose the colors responding to the minimum and maximum values. A tree map is one method to simultaneously display the magnitude. Countries with higher values take up a bigger space from the whole square. In this picture, you can see the result of a two columns list. The color of the smaller units in the big square depends on how big of a weight (what values) they have in the starting list, which gives the basis of the chart. Inroducing Excel TreeMap Charts Let’s see a real novelty that you can’t see every day! If data originates in Pivot Table, remove sub-totals, make the layout Tabular and copy paste the data before creating these charts. Remember to try these charts next time you are working with multi-level data. The Sunburst chart works even if the data has repeated labels like so: This chart does not have any special options in Format Data Series. Inner circle is the first level of hierarchy, outer circle is the second level and so on. This is more like the Tabular format of Pivot Tables – without sub-totals. We will change the data by removing the subtotals and creating a simple-two level hierarchy. It just requires the data at lowest level of hierarchy. There are gaps in the second level – Type. Unfortunately, it does not work as expected. Now let us try the Sunburst chart with the same data. And you can see how the rectangles are grouped within their categories along with how the sizes are determined. The chart will immediately display in your spreadsheet. Click the Hierarchy drop-down arrow and select Treemap. The Treemap shows the hierarchy as boxes of proportionate sizes. Select the data for the chart and head to the Insert tab. Notice that this data has main category of Department and sub-category of employee Type. Let us start with the same data as the Treemap article.
